Regional Consultations
Over the past several years, CIMA and Deutsche Welle Akademie, alongside many other partners in the field, have been organizing regional consultations that bring together a wide range of stakeholders to identify key challenges facing independent media in each region and devise regional approaches to address them. Consultations have been held in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. In recognition of the complex and cross-cutting nature of media systems, these consultations include representatives of a wide range of actors, including journalist associations, regulators, legal groups, human rights organizations, policymakers, and media experts. The consultations are intended to help our partners in each region in their efforts to strengthen political will for independent media, improve methodologies for media work, and define clearer, better articulated ideas for policy reform, with stronger ownership by beneficiaries.
