Brittany Hamzy

Brittany is CIMA's Digital Policy Research Officer. In this capacity, she works on research and strategic learning at the intersection of technology and media development.

Prior to joining CIMA, she worked on the International Foundation for Electoral Systems' (IFES) Digital Democracy team, focusing on enabling healthy information environments especially during electoral periods. Before IFES, much of her work focused around democracy building, human rights promotion, and human trafficking eradication in the MENA region and worldwide. With Free the Slaves, she conducted research and high-level advocacy campaigns on human trafficking & modern slavery at the international and UN levels, while fostering connections and coordination across human rights movements. As Deputy Director of the E-Collaborative for Civic Education, she led programming to foster democracy building, civic education, and digital resiliency in Iran and Afghanistan. Her work has been published on platforms such as openDemocracy and Newsweek.

She holds a B.A in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies from New York University and an M.A. in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from SOAS, University of London.
