VOA steps up TV coverage in Burma

The Voice of America (VOA) has added more news to its Burmese language TV news magazine. As from this morning at 7:00 am local time, the half-hour show begins with a new fast-paced daily summary of the latest developments from the region and around the world. The programme, which had been produced once a week, will now have an updated summary of the headlines six days a week. Reports on US culture and politics and the latest from the world of science and technology will round out the programme, which will be rebroadcast in the evening.

VOA Director David Ensor says, "Our Burmese Service continues to look for new ways to offer its audience fair, balanced and cutting-edge news and information on the platforms they prefer. VOA has a significant radio and TV audience in Burma and direct-to-home satellite is increasingly the way many people get their news. These upgrades to our TV programme to Burma will build on our success in this important corner of the world."

Traffic to VOA's Burmese website jumped about 26% last August following the government's decision to lift Internet restrictions. Burmese Service Chief Than Lwin Htun says visits to VOA Burmese language social media sites, including Youtube and Twitter, have also increased.

VOA's Burmese Service broadcasts on radio, Television, the Internet, mobile and social media platforms.
